Principles for open data out for consultation

This post is a translation of a Swedish original.

Well, sort of – they are proposed principles for making information available for re-use from a technical standpoint, and I have helped develop them together with DIGG (the Agency for Digital Government) as part of their government assignment on open data and data-driven innovation. Everyone is welcome to comment on the principles during the open consultation period, which runs until 13 April 2020, so take the opportunity.

Here are the principles, but there is of course more text about them in the full consultation document.

  • Use open standardised licences
  • Offer information free of charge
  • Offer information without a registration requirement
  • Describe information and make it visible
  • Make information available according to users’ needs
  • Offer current, complete and up-to-date information
  • Use machine-readable, open and standardised formats, stable addresses and unique identifiers
  • Offer fit-for-purpose documentation
  • Encourage use and feedback
